VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteers provide important services to hospice organizations and the people they serve. Whether it’s providing companionship to a person in the final months and weeks of life, offering support to family members and caregivers, or helping with community outreach and fundraising, the contributions of volunteers are essential to the important work provided by our nation’s hospice programs. Every hospice relies on volunteer support to provide excellent end-of-life care to each patient and family. By being a hospice volunteer, you can gain great personal satisfaction from knowing that you have made an impact in another person’s life. Our volunteers are mature and caring individuals who have chosen to give of themselves in one or more of the many ways in which they can. They are supportive of the hospice concept of care and are willing to serve others.
Patient Care Volunteers
Patient care volunteers offer help and companionship to patients and their families.
Home Care – Volunteers visit patients and families in their homes. Duties may include personal care, errands, transportation, light housekeeping, or providing respite for the family by sitting with the patient or visiting with the caregiver.
Long Term Care - Volunteers visit patients residing in nursing home settings regularly to provide companionship and a gentle presence.
Bereavement Volunteers
Bereavement volunteers provide support to loved ones during the months following a patient’s death. This help is offered through regular personal visits and/or telephone contacts.
Administrative/Auxiliary Volunteers
Rather than have direct contact with patients and families, administrative and auxiliary volunteers assist with daily work in the hospice office, such as: fundraising, errand running, medical records, receptionist, office assistant, data entry, etc...
Professional Service Volunteers
Professional service volunteers have a skill or profession that may be needed by hospice patients and families, or administrative group. Professional service volunteers include both clinical and non-clinical positions.

Student Volunteers
High school students - become a part of the Generations Hospice mission. In addition to the previously mentioned opportunities, you can have fun participating with nursing home residents. Play bingo, pokeno, be a dance partner or musician or just help them to exercise; judge a talent show, participate in holiday festivities or "adopt" a special family to support. Get your club, youth group, or service organization involved. We want you to BE INVOLVED!
Volunteer Training
State and federal regulations require that hospice volunteers are appropriately trained and oriented to the needs of our patients and families. To comply with these requirements, Volunteers must attend both Session One and Session Two training events, each approximately 3 hours in length. Contact our office for the most current training schedule.
